Attempted Child Abduction Stopped by Child Hero
On August 13th, 2018, an attempted child kidnapping in the Lafayette area was averted by a very brave and cautious little 9 year old girl named Halee. Because of Halee’s actions, another child’s life & innocence was likely saved on this day.
While with a group of friends and playing in their neighborhood, Halee and other children were approached by a middle-aged white male who attempted to entice the group with popsicles. After a short time, one of the children was grabbed and forcefully taken into the suspect’s home and the door was locked. At this point, all other children in the group ran home but did not alert their parents of what had happened. Halee, one of the youngest members of the group, did not abandon her friend and began yelling and banging on the suspect’s home. Because of the ruckus and diversion Halee caused outside of the home, the child victim was able to break away from the suspect and run out of the home. A short time later, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department arrested the suspect and charged him with Attempted Simple Kidnapping (RS.14:27-45)
Today, Top Echelon Investigation presented Ms. Halee Aucoin with a Certificate of Heroism, in recognition of her outstanding bravery and self-sacrifice in the face of immediate danger. Halee was also rewarded with 4 Cobra Walkie Talkies, she and her friends can carry around the neighborhood to quickly communicate any emergencies if needed.
Job well done, Halee!
